Specimen Requirements:

Collect: One 5 mL lavender (EDTA)

Transport: Whole blood. If unable to transport to the laboratory within 24 hours, separate plasma from cells and freeze.

Stability: Refrigerated: Whole blood – 24 hours; Frozen: Plasma – 1 month

Notes: BNP quantitation is affected by glass. Do not pour off or collect in glass tubes.
